Reflective Blog: Week 3

My Experience Creating a Website

Creating my own website using WordPress was surprisingly easier than I thought. There are many tips and tutorials that they provide to help along the way. I enjoyed being able to customize the theme and different aspects, such as widgets and menus on my site. Things got tricky however when I tried to customize it with CSS. I’m personally not very experienced with CSS so it took a lot of trial and error before I was able to make a simple change. Other than that I would say that this experience was quite enjoyable.

Potential Use

I could see myself using WordPress to make a portfolio website in the future to use for architecture or other projects. I think it’s a really good way for professionals to showcase their skills. Plus as things are becoming more digital I think it’s beneficial for anyone to have some sort of digital presense.

Benefits and Drawbacks

Some benefits that come with hosting your own website instead of signing up for a service or promoting yourself on social media is the flexibility. I feel like with this site you have more freedom to customize every step of the way. Also having your own site seems more professional rather than displaying your work on a social media site like Instagram. Most of the drawbacks that I can think of when it comes to hosting your own website is that you have to manage everything yourself. So it could end up being more tedious in terms of moderating and updating bugs. I think at the current stage that i’m in I wouldn’t necesarily need my own website but I could see myself creating one sometime in the future.

  1. Hi, I agree with your experience of creating a WordPress website! I also thought that customizing the webpage was fun and rewarding and the CSS was tricky since I am not used to programming language. I thnk your webpage can be used as a great way to create a portfolio in the future!
