Experience & Design Process

This was my first time designing in Fusion 360, and it went really well. I’ve used Blender before for 3D modeling, but I found Fusion 360 much easier to learn because it’s more beginner-friendly and straightforward.
It took me about two hours to make this model. Most of the tools I needed were easy to use, but I had trouble making the handle of the mug. I couldn’t get the exact shape I wanted using the default shapes. After watching some YouTube tutorials, I learned how to use the Sketch Tool which helped me get the right shape. I also wanted to add texture to the mug but couldn’t find a tutorial that showed how to do what I wanted. Even so, the rest of the process went pretty smoothly.

I really liked Fusion 360’s material and appearance tools, especially the glossy texture, which made the model look realistic. The software is simple to use, even if you don’t have much experience with computers.
Humanistic Uses in Research & Teaching
Fusion 360 can be used in research and teaching for historical reconstruction, cultural heritage preservation, and interactive learning. Researchers can create 3D models of artifacts or historical sites, making them accessible for study. Educators can use it to visualize historical objects, helping students engage with the past in a hands-on way.
Tips
- Learn keyboard shortcuts for tools—they save a lot of time and make things easier.
- If you can, use a mouse instead of a touchpad for better control and precision.
Interactive Model
Overall, I enjoyed working with Fusion 360 and want to use it for more projects. Next time, I want to try making more complicated shapes to see how it goes. I’m also excited to experiment with creating animation videos in Fusion 360.
Your mug looks so smooth! I definitely agree that the glossy texture makes it look more realistic. Also, the handle has such an interesting and natural shape! As for your plan for the future: I had no idea that you could make animated videos using Fusion, but now that I do, I hope your foray into that world goes well! Do you know the basics of how you’d start to do that?
