Lab 1

It’s difficult for me to complete this 3D modeling of my phone. It takes time to get started with tools in Fusion 360, like Create Sketch, Extrude, and Fillet. I created a lot of unexpected shapes and objects, which forced me to go back, watch tutorials, and recreate the model several times.

I think making the backside of the phone is the hardest part of the assignment. Since my phone is not just a cuboid, it has a slight curve on the backside. I tried different methods to achieve this and finally found that there’s an arrow that can adjust the angle of the arc once I extrude the backside (a tip I want to share). One compromise I made was with the camera section. I just drew circles in the sketch because I don’t know the internal structure of the camera or how to make it more realistic in 3D modeling.

I believe that Fusion 360 is a powerful tool for research and teaching. Creating 3D models of artifacts can make research and study more convenient and easier. It also fosters creativity, collaboration, and innovation in students like us.

  1. I really appreciate your endeavor to make your phone as realistic as possible, given that we can still recognize it as a phone if you just make your model cuboid. I planned to model a hourglass for my assignment at first, but failed because of the curving property of the hourglass. So I am also very grateful that you shared this tip, now I think I have the skills to try my hourglass next time.
