Setting up my new WordPress site was quite fun and gave me the opportunity to experiment with different themes. I thought navigating the site was not too difficult but did wish that I was able to make my site more visually appealing, however, this could be due to the template I used. Despite that, changing an element of my site via CSS code was fairly easy. I was able to change my paragraph text block to a blue color that is slightly different from my headings. I felt that the process of creating my website went fairly smooth because this was not my first time creating a WordPress website. The first time I used WordPress was actually last year during my winter term. I participated in the architectural study abroad in Europe (specifically Italy, Spain, and England). On my site I shared weekly blogs about the various countries and cities I visited and also included several photos. I remember when I created my first website, I had a hard time figuring out how to use the platform and navigating all the different tools, but once I got the hang of it, it was a rewarding experience. In regards to my new website, my goal this time around is to create a space for my digital humanities projects and other personal interests. I’m excited to use this platform as a portfolio for my academic work.
One of the main benefits of hosting my own WordPress site is that I have full control over the design and functionality of my website. Having such artistic freedom is great because it allows me to create a site that aligns with my personal vision. However, a drawback is that it takes time to learn how to navigate the WordPress platform and being able to fully customize every aspect of the site requires lots of experimentation and troubleshooting. This can be time-consuming, especially when I run into technical issues that I am unsure how to solve.
