This lab assignment wasn’t particularly hard but I was frustrated by the “Appearance” feature. The appearance feature allows for many textures but only in certain colors. This made it difficult for me to nail down the specific color of my grey iPad- or rather I should say I did find the right color for the iPad body but the screen and body would just blend and look like a huge block. To work around this, I chose to use a red metallic color for the body of my iPad to create a contrast to the screen. I had to compromise the accuracy of my object to make the model look more realistic.
3D modeling is very useful in visualizing 3D designs and concepts. For example, when designing a machine it’s probably much easier to visualize it in 3D rather than a 2D blueprint. 3D modeling can also be used to communicate abstract 3D concepts. For example, it could be used to model complex chemistry molecular orbitals that are almost impossible to properly understand on a 2D surface.
Fusion 360 is a convenient 3D modeling tool that can be used on the go with a powerful laptop. Something that I found useful is the scroll bar at the bottom which can allow you to access your past edits. You can utilize this to go back to a past version without having to undo everything you want to keep- basically a better version of command Z. Just be careful, if you’re editing something with multiple layers, and you want to edit the base layer of, it could change your other additional edits.
