Progress
- What have you done so far, who have you talked to, what have you gathered, and what have you built?
We’ve made progress/ almost completed on the two 3D models we are making. We are making finishing touches to the csv data file we created to plot points and information on to our georeferenced historical maps. Map base layers are ready to have other components to be added to them once they are finished.
Problems (and proposed solutions)
One problem we faced while doing 3D modeling was that the old pictures did not accurately show all sides of the building. The lack of full reference definitely made it harder to create an accurate representation, but we were able to make guesses based on similar buildings.
Tools and techniques
- We used Fusion 360 to make the 3D modeling.
- google sheets to organize our sources.
- Google Drive to share files.
- ArcGIS to create our interactive map
Deliverables
An updated timeline of deliverable
- 3D models done by Monday night
- Import 3D models and all CSV data by Thursday Night
- Being working on final wordpress site – due on Sunday
Is your project still on track?
The project is fairly on track, as we have most components almost done; we just need to start putting items together.

Personal messages:
Each team member should add a brief message outlining your personal work on the project, referencing the roles decided in the team charter.
- Esther: The 3D model of the Northfield library is 80% done. It just needs some details and textures.
- John: I was able to upload all of our project pictures such that they are now available to download over a https endpoint. I also used the Deoldify AI colorizer model to colorize a portion of our photo. Lastly, I organized a google sheet of all of our sources such that they can be imported into our project environment.
- Fenan: The Armory square building is 95% done except some details.
- Jennifer: I was able to find multiple historical Northfield maps and georeferenced them using AllMaps Editor/directly pulled from ArcGIS existing data. I also experimented with our work in progress CSV data file to make sure our proposed ideas are doable.
- Osareme: I helped some with various organizational pieces, but haven’t had much time to give the project my attention. I aim to give more effort over the next few days and help get the map done.
This is such a thoughtful and well-researched post! I appreciate how you not only documented your sources clearly but also took the time to explain the historical context of why Carleton has these maps. It’s really interesting how your project is not just about digitizing maps but also unpacking the colonial and military narratives embedded within them. I’m excited to see how your translations and annotations bring these historical layers to life and make them accessible to a wider audience.
I love how you guys were able to divide the work up to stay on track with your project! Your deliverables also look very organized and I am very excited to see your project. I love the way you guys are incorporating fusion 360 and ArcGIS to make a digital map!
I really like how you guys are using a lot of the tools and techniques that we have learned throughout this term for your project. I also really like how you went about dealing with some buildings that weren’t fully represented by the photos you have. Being able to fill in those holes by looking at other similar buildings is a very clever workaround. I am interested to see what the final product looks like!
It sounds like you guys are doing some modeling of buildings, having to implement and sort of make guesses to fill in missing information using different architectural styles seems like a really interesting challenge! I can’t wait to see how your Fusion models turn out!!
It sounds like you all are making good progress on your project! It’s great to hear that you are almost finished with the CSV data file, I know how time-consuming that can be to organize and filter! You seem to have a good timeline figured out for the upcoming week, I’m excited to see how your finished 3D models turn out!
We are also working with 3D modeling in Fusion 360 and ArcGIS mapping and have been running into similar issues regarding lack of references for 3D modeling. Making educated guesses is definitely the best way to go and I’m glad to hear that you guys have a lot of progress done. Hopefully the rest of the project goes smoothly. I’m excited to see how it turns out!
Hey guys, I think your guys’ project is very interesting. You guys are making really good progress and I agree with you that making an educated guess is definitely the best way to go. Good luck with the rest of your project and I am very excited to see your guys’ final presentation!
