I used a circle packing chart for this data set to try to organize the names with their rank. By dividing up the data this way, we can see how well each name performs rank-wise over the dataset. That was the goal, at least, but I couldn’t quite get the hierarchies correct. I tweaked the graph’s color scheme to increase contrast with the labels and make it more readable.
An important part of digital humanities is the presentation of ideas. We rely on effective communication to share the stories we find in data. Data visualization can be a crucial part of that endeavor.
