Reflection on the Setup Process

Setting up my WordPress site was a valuable learning experience. Installing WordPress through cPanel was straightforward, thanks to the clear instructions provided in the Google Document. However, customizing the theme required some experimentation. It took me some time to figure out how to set up my About page and link it to my domain, but the process of trial and error helped me better understand how everything works. Using CSS to tweak the layout was both challenging and rewarding—I successfully changed the background color and font styles to match my personal aesthetic. It was exciting to apply the CSS knowledge I gained from tutorials and in-class lectures to a real project during this assignment.

Opportunities

This platform opens up many opportunities for self-expression and professional development. I plan to use it as an online portfolio to showcase my creative projects, such as photography, jazz dance, and sitar performances. I also realized it’s the perfect place to create an art portfolio! In addition to these creative projects, the site could serve as a resource hub for sharing academic projects and connecting with peers.

Hosting Your Own Website: Pros and Cons

Hosting my own website offers significant advantages, including complete control over design and content and the ability to establish a professional online presence without the distractions of ads or algorithms. However, it also brings responsibilities like maintaining updates, managing security, and navigating technical challenges. That said, I currently don’t feel a strong need for the full control that comes with hosting on my own server. At this stage, simpler platforms might suffice for my needs. Still, I appreciate the flexibility this experience has shown me for future possibilities.

You can find my website here. This site serves as a platform to showcase my personal interests, academic goals, and creative projects. Currently, it features an “About” page where I’ve shared my background and aspirations, with plans to expand it into a creative and academic portfolio.
