Blog Week 3

Here’s my website.

Setting up my own website on WordPress has been an interesting and unique experience. Compared to coding, constructing websites on WordPress seems easier and more user-friendly, but it still took me hours to get familiar with the tools. From my experience, I started by creating a new “ABOUT ME” page and choosing a pattern to fill in the text. I spent some time figuring out how to directly control the size of text in different blocks and their positions on the website. Afterward, I returned to the homepage, added a title and some information, and linked it to the new page. Following the instructions, I downloaded and activated a new theme from WordPress, only to find that the original homepage layout was disrupted by the new theme. During the customization process, I deleted unnecessary blocks and links and reorganized the page’s structure. Customizing the website took a significant amount of time. Additionally, I encountered difficulties with CSS coding while attempting to adjust the position and size of text. Although I managed to partially resolve the issues, it didn’t work perfectly.

In the future, I plan to use this website to showcase my projects, categorizing them into different subjects, including CS and DGAH. I believe this platform is a great way for others to learn about me and my work while facilitating better communication, as visitors can freely share their thoughts, leave comments, and provide feedback.

Benefits: Everyone can freely set up their own website without any restrictions. I have full control over the design, content, and functionality of my site, allowing me to implement any features or designs I desire through customization. Moreover, I fully own my content and data. Unlike social media platforms, I am not subject to changes in terms of service.

Drawbacks: Setting up a website by yourself is time-consuming and requires learning new knowledge and skills. Beginners like me may encounter frequent problems during the construction process. Additionally, resources on personal websites are limited. Unlike social media platforms, which have millions of active users, building an audience from scratch is a challenging task.
